River Basin Information for the General Public | |||||||||||||
This section of the Summit to the Sea web site contains information of interest to anyone wanting to know more about Georgia's river basins. There is some general information that relates to all of Georgia's rivers and their watersheds and some information that is specific to a river system. We selected the Altamaha River Basin as our first targeted river because it lies completely within Georgia's boundaries and covers more than a third of the total area of the state. Its major tributaries, the Ocmulgee and Oconee Rivers, originate in the upper Piedmont and flow into the Atlantic Ocean near the middle of Georgia's coast, passing through towns such as Macon, Milledgeville, Athens, Dublin and Jesup on the way. Because this web site is growing and changing, we welcome suggestions about ways to improve the information presented as well as reports of errors of fact, spelling or omission. Feel free to send suggestions, corrections or other comments to the webmaster. |
