Ohoopee Dunes Savory Calamintha ashei (Weath.) Shinners

A low compact shrub (10-30 cm tall), this woody mint smells strongly of basil. The flowers are lavender and the leaves small (5-12 mm long). This plant is only found on open sand ridges along the Ohoopee River and the Florida peninsula.

In the vicinity of Reidsville, Ohoopee Dunes savory is found in xeric sandhill remnants and under a powerline.

Development and competition from trees are the major threats to this plant.
