General Interest Site

Sapelo Island, which lies just off the coast of Georgia, north of the mouth of the Altamaha River, is one of Georgia's large barrier islands, often called the Golden Isles. It is also the site of the University of Georgia Marine Institute and of the Sapelo Island National Estuarine Research Reserve (SINERR). Like the other barrier islands, Sapelo has a rich and interesting history.
