Georgia Elephant-Ear Elliptio dariensis

Its shell characterized by a high ridge and pointed anterior ventral lobe (an "ear lobe"), this endemic mussel is widely distributed but nowhere common within the Altamaha and lower Ohoopee rivers. It has been noted occurring in fine sand to coarse silt sediments along stable banks, from five quads in five counties within the study area.
