Rayed Pink Fatmucket Lampsilis splendida

The lines radiating down its shell, the pink color of its pearly nacre, and its wide body provide the origin of this mussel's name. The fatmucket occurs in South Carolina and other Georgia rivers north of the Altamaha, but is nowhere common. It has been found to occur more often in fine sand and coarse silt in stable sediments on the Altamaha and lower Ohoopee rivers, where it has been noted at seven locations on six quads in five counties.
