Mimic Glass Lizard Ophisaurus mimicus

The legless glass lizards are often mistaken for snakes, and are named for the brittle quality of their long tails. This little-known species occurs in the coastal plain from Louisiana to North Carolina. It is found in sandy woodlands or scrub habitats; two study-area records are from widely separated locations in McIntosh and Wayne counties.
