American Kestrel Falco sparverius paulus

The southeastern race of this small falcon has declined as its natural breeding habitats, open woodlands and savannahs, have been converted to pine plantations. Two records represent pairs of birds which bred in successive years within seven miles of one another in Long County; these records may indicate relocation by a single pair of kestrels.
