Darien, GA Docks and Shrimp Fleet | ||||||||||
Darien, GA lies near the mouth of the Altamaha. The town docks are the home of many shrimp boats and other fishing activities. The fisherman pictured below has caught an eel. The pelican on the pole, a feathered fisherman, rests and waits for a tasty meal to swim past. During the days before the Civil War, Darien was a thriving port for exports of timber harvested in swamplands along the Altamaha and other nearby areas. The Darien Bank at that time was the wealthiest south of Philadelphia. |
